What is a deductible?

Never pay a collusion deductible again

A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket when you make a claim. Deductibles are usually a specific dollar amount.

Deductibles are used as a way to share the risk between the policyholder and the insurance company. If you weren’t required to have a deductible, you could technically have as many accidents as you wanted on the insurance company’s dime. Paying a deductible ensures you also have a stake in any claim you make.

What is the relationship between the deductible and the insurance premium?

Before the Safe Trip Motor Club, people who couldn’t afford their deductible had to choose a lower deductible plan.

Most often, a lower deductible means higher monthly premium payments. If you have a low deductible, you have more coverage from your insurance company and you have to pay less out of pocket in the case of a claim. A higher deductible means a reduced cost in your insurance premium.

The most common insurance question used to be:
Should I have a higher deductible or higher premium?
Raising your deductible (amount you pay) will lower your premium! That's a fact! By joining our club you take away the need to make this choice. Raise your deductible to $1000 then watch your premium go down. And, if you have to file a collison claim don't worry. We pay the deductible for you! All the way up to $1000. This is a win-win for you by lowering your insurance premiums and you paying a $0 deductible should you need to file an insurance claim for a collision.

What happens if I need to file an insurance claim?

The insurance company will write a check directly to your chosen mechanic less the deductible cost. If you do not pay the remainder of the balance owed, the mechanic can legally keep your vehicle. If do not have the deductible amount to contribute you would not have sufficient funds to repair the damage to the vehicle, which could significantly lower its value. You cannot ask your mechanic to overcharge the insurance company to make up the deductible cost, a practice that constitutes insurance fraud.

In a situation where you do not have the money to pay your deductible to a mechanic, the insurance company will send you a check for the damage estimate minus the deductible.

*According to Quote Wizard by Lending Tree that choosing a $1000 deductible can save you an average of $372 per year on your car insurance costs.

Car & Driver

"The average car insurance deductible is the average amount drivers pay upfront when they have to file a claim with their auto insurance providers. After you pay this amount, the insurance company covers the cost of the qualifying damage or loss. Choosing a car insurance deductible can have serious financial implications" (unless you are a member of Safe Trip Motor Club".)

People who are leasing or financing their car tend to choose a lower deductible. This provides better coverage in the case of a claim. This is necessary for people who don’t own their car, because they are responsible for returning the car in working condition no matter what—with or without the financial help of insurance.

Leave the dealership with lower insurance cost by raising your deductible to $1000 and let us take care of the deductible cost should you need to file a collision claim.
